CNC milling titanium

CNC machining titanium is not for the faint-hearted. Landes is more than able to take on the challenge. Titanium has a number of special characteristics which make it particularly suitable for certain applications. But these very same characteristics make CNC machining difficult.

Titanium

Titanium is light, around 40% lighter than steel. Yet it is more or less as strong. In addition, titanium is extremely corrosion resistant. And it is a poor conductor of heat. All these characteristics make titanium particularly suitable for the aerospace and defence industry, where it is indeed widely used. Titanium is however also often used in semiconductor industries and in jewellery.

  1. Due to the difficulty in machining titanium, a well thought out approach is needed: the choice and sharpness of the tools is crucial. .
  2. Titanium’s poor heat conductivity means suitable cooling is needed.
